With this routine, we will be able to redefine that number and select to update all the title blocks with this new information, but not draw the 'Main Index' table again and obviously don't create new drawings. Once those are created the routine will go back through each drawing updating the title block with its own unique information and project wide information as each will be blank.Īfter we design all of the schematics, maybe the mechanical guys say, "Good golly miss Molly, the project identification number has changed because finances." So now we have to go through and change two attributes on a drawing's title block and its drawing name for every drawing in the project. With these toggles, we can upfront initialize the project as whole using the routine that takes a blank template dwg with our standard title block and copy/pastes it into the project folder, and changing the name to each drawing number, for all sheets included in the dialog. With each 'row'/'sheet' what have you, there are toggles to draw it in the main index table, create a new sheet if it does not exist, and update the title block. The routine pops a dialog where we fill out all of the information for project and unique information for each sheet (it does this with the help of automation as much as it can such as the drawing number being a combination of other information).
What I am trying to accomplish is that when we start a new project, we have the first 'Main Index' drawing where we call the routine. So for each sheet, there is a handful of unique attributes to be updated on the title block and the rest are all the same on each sheet's title block. Each project has an identification number and a drawing number that is a combination of the identification number and sheet number. For example we will always have 'Main Index' as 1, 'Spare' as 2, 'Enet Layout' as 3, and so on. We know before we design each sheet what the sheet will be, its number, what its description will be, etc. What the routine does is the somewhat the reverse of Drawing List Report. Is there a better way to implement this last feature? I feel the above method should be working and possibly just needs tweaking to get it to play fair, but I feel this way is very forced and brutal, but probably necessary. Given it is lengthy but organized, it would be useful to view it in an editor that allows folding, I used Notepad++. This works really well, for the last sheet only that is.
The closest I have come to a solution is iterating over each drawing in the project, setting wdp values unique to the one drawing, calling the API function to run a script project wide (but just the one drawing) where it calls the API function to process one title block (wish that API could be extended to specify a drawing to process instead of just the current drawing). I spent all yesterday searching for a way to implement the new feature I want in this routine, which is to update the title blocks of each project in the drawing based on the information plugged into the dcl. Yesterday I added the ability to add a 'blank' drawing with our title block if the designer has specified it as part of the project, name it accordingly, and add it to the project.
This works well, taking the information from the dcl and displaying it on the sheet. I have been writing a lisp routine along with a dcl to help speed things along for us designers as well as standardize that table's aesthetics. This is where most of us start with a project.
With my company, each project has the first sheet as the 'Main Index' that is just a table displaying information about the rest of the drawings in the project.
